Hello, Superstar! Ready to make your artistic business profitable?

Let me guess, you’re a creative. You have to be if you found this site. I’m a creative too, and birds of feather flock together.

Although, if you’re here today then you also have a problem. You’re not just a creative, you’re an artist. Your drive to create is insatiable.

It doesn’t matter if you write, paint, sketch, act, dance, photograph, or sing – you need a creative outlet to be happy.

The trouble is that the world doesn’t understand. The world operates by this little thing called money, and if you don’t have it then you don’t count.

So maybe you gave up on your passion. Maybe you’re working a job that you hate just because it pays well. But you’re not happy.

Or maybe you’re one of the brave ones. Maybe you’ve set out to make your own artistic business. It doesn’t matter what the world says! YOU are going to succeed.

But no one warned you how hard it is to run a business. Maybe you…

  • Are brand new to business and don’t know what numbers you need. What counts as expenses? How do you budget? How do you price things? It’s all overwhelming!
  • Have been in business for a while, and are exhausted just trying to keep up. It’s so time consuming…
  • Aren’t even trying to keep up. Your desk is a disaster! You have business receipts, personal receipts, and random files all mixed up. Someone, please get me organized STAT!
  • Don’t understand a word your accountant says. What do all these numbers mean?????
  • Get embarrassed when people ask, “How’s business?” You’ll make something up, but you don’t really know. What even are profit margins? AAAAAHHH!
  • Have no idea if you’re headed for bankruptcy or if you’re actually making money…

Don’t let these fears stop you, Superstar! You’ve already done the hard part. You went into business for yourself. You have creativity and passion and your business is going to be ok.

Superstar, it’s time someone told you about bookkeeping…

First, you should understand that here at the Bookkeeping Artist we have a few core beliefs:

  • You absolutely can make money as an artist! Opening your own business is the best way to make that happen.
  • Artists make natural entrepreneurs. No one else is as creative and hardworking, and passion drives all successful businesses.
  • You do not need a stuffy degree to be successful in business. (Seriously. I’m self-taught and I’m here to get you the knowledge you need to succeed.)
  • Bookkeeping is the secret to a profitable business. All I will teach you are different flavors of this one awesome business principle.

Oh, I should also add that I don’t believe in gurus or magical formulas. You will never hear me say that mine is the one system, the greatest system, and the only system to which you should subscribe. I love bookkeeping precisely because it is so versatile and can be adapted to fit your unique business.

So who am I? I’m Katherine Pomerantz, the original Bookkeeping Artist. I’m a money mentor for artist entrepreneurs and I’m here to change the way you think and feel about money.

I’m going to combat that little voice in your head that says you can’t do this. You know, that rotten feeling you get when you’re asked to work “for the exposure.” Or that guilty feeling that stops you from sending an invoice because “it’s so much money.” Or the way you torture yourself at the end of each month because you may not have enough to pay your bills.

I what it’s like. I remember being a student, sitting around with my super cool theatre friends, relishing the time I would spend suffering for my ART! There was no need to consider the future because I was performing and living the dream. My present was just SOOOOO enviable.

Except it wasn’t. I lived in constant fear: fear of failure, fear of judgement, and fear of the future. I was paying my bills (barely) but I was one emergency away from being deep in debt. As I got older, this feeling only intensified. I was always worried about MONEY. I was always struggling to get more MONEY. I never had enough, nor could I hold onto my MONEY. Money became my nemesis. What should have been a fulfilling theatrical career became tainted by this horrible green obsession. So I gave up. I took a boring, old bookkeeping job because it was practical, steady, and the complete opposite of how I’d lived my life so far.

Superstar, I was in a very dark place and I know it’s one you can relate to. Luckily there was a light at the end of the tunnel, because I kind of liked my new job. I liked learning about business. I liked discussing numbers, and helping businesses grow their profits. Most of all, I liked the entrepreneurs I worked with. These brave individuals faced uncertainty and failure every day, except money became their weapon. They turned money into their tool and built the lifestyle they wanted for themselves.

Despite my new job description, my passion to create didn’t stay dormant for very long. And finally it clicked. I could use my new money expertise AND I could make art. In fact, the two should have been married from the very beginning.

Now that’s all I do. I help creative entrepreneurs make more money by gifting them the business knowledge they need and leveraging their artistic passion. It’s a surefire formula for success.

Because Superstar, I want you to do it! I want your business to become wildly profitable! Let’s make it happen!
